Single-unit responsibility
Today is 8 June 2026, and I wanted to journal something about AI and PropertyBook. PropertyBook says: not a folder dump of the property. I like this idea of single-unit granularity. Then it has chats and files. Everyone who has a property, or lives in one, or has some responsibility for one, wants to manage that responsibility well.
When it comes to managing responsibility, I think about technology as something that brings to us what was only available before at a very high price. It is not just a cheaper form. Imagine a thousand years ago, if you had to send a message to someone, you had to have a person. You had to tell it to them. They would take that message physically, walk, or go on a horse, reach somewhere, and convey the message.
How long did it take? Who is this person? Who feeds him? What is his purpose? What is his life situation? Maybe a king can afford him. Think about it from that perspective: a king can afford to send a message, but an individual cannot. Today, anyone can send a message. That is technology.
Technology as an equaliser
Technology is interesting to me because it is an equaliser. We can think about society and the problems we face, and we can protest on the street to try to change that. But only when the technology is available to solve the problem does the problem really go away. I can give many examples, even controversial ones.
There were people who had farms and literally had slaves, wanted labour for their plantations. Yes, the laws changed. But more importantly, the laws could be enforced because there were more options, cheaper ways to do the work. It is sad to ask: did humanity decide not to have slaves, or was there a cheaper option? Technology changes things.
There are a lot of questions about technology. Is this technology dangerous? At least when it comes to digital technology, you cannot politically hold a whole technology. Digital technology is very powerful, and it is very competitive. So I believe that we should build. Not just say no. Build as protest. Build technology, because today you can.
Why I embrace AI
I believe AI may become modularised and will be in your homes. Models are improving very fast, and at some point they will slow down, and they will be enough for you. You can have a machine, an AI for yourself, and it can do basic things, so you do not have to worry: is my data going somewhere else?
But today, do we have that? No, we do not. Today, whatever data goes into AI is going to be trained on, which is alarming to say the least. We are creating a kind of consciousness. Some companies may be positioned to extract the maximum from this. But that is capitalism. What is this work of theirs worth? We will figure out new ways to do the world, and new ways to live.
Water is going to be water. Land is going to be land. Nature is going to be nature. Earth is going to be earth. Until then, I do not fear AI. I embrace it. I think we all should, because it is a significant change in a positive direction. It makes things more accessible to more people, and that is empowerment.
